BCDA Partners with Danish Firm Danfoss to Develop Decarbonization Plan for New Clark City

CAPAS, TARLAC — The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has entered into a partnership with Danish firm Danfoss to initiate a decarbonization study aimed at transforming New Clark City into the Philippines’ first green metropolis. This collaboration marks a significant step towards integrating sustainable and innovative urban development solutions in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on September 16 by BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang and Danfoss Philippines, Inc. General Manager Allan Alfredo Almendrala. The agreement focuses on conducting comprehensive technical assessments, feasibility studies, and preparing a business case for various decarbonization initiatives within New Clark City.

Bingcang highlighted the importance of the MOU, stating, “With this decarbonization program, we aim to position New Clark City as a model and benchmark for other cities in the Philippines—and even around the globe—that are striving to achieve a net-zero transition.”

Danfoss will contribute its expertise in carbon-neutral technologies and will explore the implementation of smart store systems, district cooling systems, and the establishment of a Sustainability Technology Center. These initiatives are designed to enhance energy efficiency and promote sustainable urban planning.

Almendrala expressed enthusiasm about the project, emphasizing the potential of green technology to create vibrant and attractive urban spaces. “By offering a roadmap for green urban transition, it shows how cities can act as ambitious, inspirational front-runners that showcase green technology and create attractive places to live and work,” he said.

The signing was also witnessed by Danish Ambassador to the Philippines Franz-Michael Mellbin, who noted, “This partnership between New Clark City and Danfoss will accelerate sustainable solutions and foster a better life for Filipinos.”

This initiative not only aims to improve the quality of life in New Clark City but also sets a precedent for sustainable development efforts across the nation and beyond.
