Comelec to Announce Qualified Party-Lists for 2025 Elections Next Week

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to release the names of party-list organizations eligible to run in the May 2025 elections by next week. The announcement is pending the resolution of all ongoing accreditation cases.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that the list could be finalized and published by Friday of next week, provided all cases are resolved by Monday. Garcia made this announcement during a radio interview, emphasizing that the accreditation process hinges solely on merit.

The window for filing the List of Nominees and the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CON-CAN) is scheduled from October 1 to 8, according to the official calendar of activities for the upcoming polls. Garcia also addressed concerns regarding the fairness of the screening process, asserting that under his leadership, the commission has employed a rigorous and impartial method to evaluate all applications. This stringent approach aims to dispel concerns about corruption or undue influence affecting the accreditation outcomes.

In the previous 2022 elections, a total of 177 party-list groups competed for seats, highlighting the vibrant and competitive nature of this electoral segment.
