Weather Conditions Restrict Road Access in Benguet, Kalinga, and Mt. Province

Benguet, Philippines—Persistent adverse weather conditions have led to restricted access on several road sections and bridges across Benguet, Kalinga, and Mt. Province, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Cordillera. The limitations, announced in a road advisory on Saturday, affect multiple key routes in the region, posing challenges for travelers.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH-Cordillera highlighted specific disruptions in its latest road advisory. In Benguet, Kennon Road between K0237+529 and K0237+680 in Camp 6, Tuba is open to one-way traffic and limited to light vehicles only due to road conditions. Another segment in Sitio Camp 2, Brgy. Twin Peaks, Tuba, is closed to all vehicles due to a roadslip. Alternative routes suggested include Marcos Highway and the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road.

Further restrictions include one-lane access on several parts of the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road and Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road due to soil collapses and fallen trees, with ongoing clearance operations. In Kalinga, the Manuel S. Agyao Boulevard at Eleb Bridge in Nambaran, Tabuk City, is passable only to light vehicles due to damage to the bridge deck. Alternate routes have been designated for heavier vehicles.

Mt. Province also reports limited access on the Baguio-Bontoc Road and Dantay-Sagada Road, although the latter remains passable to all types of vehicles. The advisory also notes that all national roads and bridges in Abra, Apayao, Ifugao, and the City of Baguio are currently passable.

Motorists and commuters traveling through these regions are urged to exercise extreme caution, especially as rains continue to affect most parts of northern Luzon, potentially exacerbating the current travel disruptions.
