13,136 Security Personnel to Patrol Davao Cemeteries for Undas

DAVAO CITY: The Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) of Davao City is set to deploy over 13,000 security personnel across 38 cemeteries to ensure public safety during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day from October 31 to November 3. This move is part of the city’s comprehensive security plan to manage the influx of visitors during the annual commemoration known as “Undas.”

According to Philippines News Agency, PSSO operations officer Oscar Partuza outlined various security measures, including the installation of informational tarpaulins at larger cemeteries to highlight safety protocols. While umbrellas are allowed, pointed items are restricted to prevent potential hazards. Lighters can be used for candles but are prohibited for lighting cigarettes.

Partuza emphasized that incident command posts and medical stations will be set up to address emergencies. Additional restrictions include bans on loud music, alcoholic beverages, gambling, firearms, and drones within cemetery premises. Ven
dors wishing to operate near cemeteries must secure special permits from the Business Bureau to ensure regulated activities.

The city government previously announced specific guidelines for cemetery visitors on November 1 and 2, notably prohibiting karaoke machines, jackets, bags, and alcoholic beverages. Firearms and drones are strictly forbidden. Entry will be denied to loiterers, vagrants, and scavengers, while both vehicles and pedestrians are required to adhere to a “one entrance, one exit” policy to streamline movement.

Partuza urged Dabawenyos to comply with the city’s guidelines and safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for all visitors. Only vendors with authorized permits will be allowed to sell food and other goods in proximity to cemeteries during the observance period.
