ILOILO CITY: The Pagsuguiron family from Antique province, recognized as the 2024 Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya in Western Visayas, attributes their success in overcoming poverty to prioritizing education. The family, led by Florence Pagsuguiron, emphasizes the strategic use of government cash grants to ensure educational opportunities for their children.
According to Philippines News Agency, Florence, a parent leader with the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in San Remigio, expressed her gratitude for the recognition during the awarding ceremony held in Iloilo City. She stated, “I really made sure that the cash grants we receive from the 4Ps will be properly used to meet the needs of my children, especially on education.” Her eldest child, a college graduate, is currently applying to the Philippine Coast Guard, while two others pursue degrees in Electrical and Civil Engineering. The younger children remain distinguished students at the secondary level.

ney to complete a Bachelor in Secondary Education degree and pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers, underscoring her commitment to setting an educational example for her children. After a teaching stint in Alternative Learning, she worked as a contractual employee with the Philippine Statistics Authority, with her contract concluding on September 15. Her income, combined with her husband’s earnings from a haircut and vulcanizing shop, supplemented the family’s financial resources.
The family actively participates in community service, with Florence engaging in volunteer work and her children involved in the Sangguniang Kabataan and the Children of Mary. She advocates for the importance of attending 4Ps Family Development Sessions to gain insights into parenting and financial management.
The Pagsuguiron family will receive their award and a plaque during the National Family Week celebration in Manila from October 27 to 31.
