Albay to Launch New Farm School to Enhance Agricultural and Food Security Skills

Tabaco City, Albay—The provincial government of Albay, in a bid to bolster agricultural knowledge and improve food security, is set to open a new farm school in the 1st District, which aims to provide specialized training for both students and local farmers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Daryl John Buenconsejo, the Albay Assistant Provincial Agriculturist, detailed plans for the new school slated to possibly begin classes next month. The school will be an extension of the Provincial Organic Vegetables and Experimental Station (POVES) and will offer courses similar to those provided in a facility opened in the 2nd District in 2018. These include organic agriculture, crop production, and a farmers’ field school.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to disseminate the programs, projects, and services of the government more effectively amongst the Albayano community. “The farm school that will open in Barangay Buang, Tabaco City, will serve as an additional educational resource for the towns of Tiwi, Malinao, Malilipot, Bacacay, and Sto. Domingo,” Buenconsejo explained.

With a capacity to accommodate 25 students per batch on a first-come, first-served basis, the new farm school aims to start its first classes by October. Prospective students are encouraged to register at the Albay Provincial Agriculture Office located in Bounty Village, Camalig, Albay.

This educational expansion reflects the provincial government’s commitment to enhancing the agricultural capabilities and sustainability practices among its constituents, fostering a more secure and resilient food system within the region.
