All Bicol Airports Operational Despite Storm Kristine, Says Transportation Secretary

Manila: Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista announced on Thursday that all airports in the Bicol Region are operational despite being among the areas severely affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, internationally known as Trami. These airports, including those in Daraga, Virac, Masbate, and Naga, are now available for the air transport of relief goods.

According to Philippines News Agency, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) personnel are ready to assist with flights at these airports if necessary. The Bicol International Airport (BIA) was reported operational on Wednesday, although access was hampered as Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines personnel could not report for duty due to blocked roads. Flight operations had been disrupted, with several cancellations from October 22 to 23 due to the storm.

Commercial flight operations resumed at BIA on Thursday, but Cebu Pacific’s flights 5J 325/326 to and from Manila remained canceled owing to the cyclone’s impact. Meanwhile, Virac Airp
ort reported no damages, and a mobile charging station was set up outside Naga Airport’s main gate on Wednesday to assist those needing power supply. Additionally, 43 individuals were temporarily sheltered at Naga Airport’s arrival area on the same day.

The CAAP emphasized their continued vigilance in safeguarding the safety, security, and welfare of passengers amid the ongoing challenges posed by the storm.
