Altas Triumph Over Pirates in Overtime to Strengthen NCAA Semifinal Aspirations


SAN JUAN CITY: University of Perpetual Help secured a pivotal victory against Lyceum of the Philippines University, winning 89-83 in overtime to solidify their semifinal hopes in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament at FilOil EcoOil Centre.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Altas established their largest lead at 59-51 during the third quarter but were forced into overtime after Lyceum’s Jonathan Daileg’s last-second shot in regulation was ruled a two-pointer upon video review. This crucial decision led to the overtime period where Perpetual’s Christian Pagaran, Jearico Nuñez, and Mark Gojo Cruz combined for 12 points to secure the win.

Pagaran contributed significantly with 16 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks. Nuñez added 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while Cruz added nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block. The victory improved Perpetual’s record to 6-8, allowing them to avenge their earlier 62-64 defeat to the Pi
rates on October 2.

JP Boral was the top scorer for the Altas with 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists. John Abis also made a notable contribution with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. For the Pirates, Renz Villegas led with 23 points, four assists, and two steals, while John Barba added 17 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Daileg finished with 10 points, with teammates Mclaude Guadana and Neil Moralejo each adding nine points. Lyceum’s loss places them at 6-7, trailing the Altas by half a game.
