Antique Aspirant Shifts Gubernatorial Bid to Party-List Nomination


MANILA-Ray Roquero:ay Roquero, initially a candidate for governor in the Province of Antique, announced on Tuesday his decision to withdraw from the gubernatorial race to run as the second nominee for the AnaKalusugan party-list in the upcoming elections.

According to Philippines News Agency, Roquero revealed his change of plans during a press conference, where he also mentioned that he had already submitted his Certificate of Nomination and Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination for party-list representative on Monday at the Commission on Elections at Manila Hotel Tent City. He articulated his intent to advocate for healthcare improvements through his new political role. “As a party-list representative, I could help push for the full implementation of the Universal Health Law so that indigent patients no longer have to worry that they would still have out-of-pocket expenses for they needed to buy medicines that are lacking in the hospitals,” Roquero stated.

He further explained that his decision aligns wi
th the party-list’s mission to enhance the health system, which would continue to benefit his constituents in Antique. Roquero added, “I could also help realize the creation of two districts in Antique as a party list representative.” His commitment to health and local governance reform highlights his ongoing dedication to public service. Roquero, who served as the senior deputy administrator of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority from 2018 to 2022 and is the current provincial chair of AnaKalusugan in Antique, is leveraging his extensive administrative experience to impact legislation and health policy.
