Barge Grounds in Navotas Amid Tropical Storm Enteng’s Harsh Weather

NAVOTAS CITY—A barge was grounded in the waters off Pondohan, Tangos North, Navotas City on Tuesday, following severe weather conditions induced by Tropical Storm Enteng.

According to Philippines News Agency, Barge Karangalan 2, which had been moored at the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Shipping and Lighterage Wharf in Tanza, Navotas City, became adrift around 6 a.m. after its forward ropes accidentally broke. The vessel was initially towed by MTUG Limay 3 to a safer location along the waters of Tanza, but strong winds and large waves eventually dragged it into the shallows of Pondohan.

PCG personnel have responded to the incident, advising the ship master to file a marine protest and apply for an emergency salvage permit to facilitate the ship’s recovery. “The PCG continues to monitor the aground vessel and will conduct boarding inspection as soon as weather permits,” the agency stated.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) updated that Tropical Storm Enteng has reintensified over the waters west of Ilocos Norte. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is in effect for the western portion of Ilocos Norte and the northern portion of Ilocos Sur. TCWS No. 1 has been issued for additional areas including the rest of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, parts of La Union, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, the western part of Mountain Province, the northern section of Benguet, and the western section of Cagayan.
