Baronda and Treñas Camps Unite for Iloilo City’s 2025 Elections

Baronda:In a significant political development, rival factions Team Uswag and Team Gugma in Iloilo City announced a united front for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, setting aside their differences to focus on the city’s future. This unity move came just minutes after the deadline for filing certificates of candidacy, positioning Iloilo Rep. Julienne Baronda and Raisa Treñas-Chu at the forefront of the city’s lone district representative and mayoral races, respectively.

According to Philippines News Agency, the decision to unite under a shared vision for Iloilo City was disclosed through a joint statement by Iloilo Rep. Julienne Baronda of Team Ugma and Raisa Treñas-Chu from Team Uswag. “After deep reflection and sincere dialogue, we have decided to come together once again for the greater good of our beloved city,” the statement read. Both teams have decided not to oppose each other in the races for the district representative and mayor, showing a strong commitment to collaborative governance.

Rep. Bar
onda is seeking re-election, while Treñas-Chu is entering the political arena as a first-time mayoral candidate. Despite their previous rivalries, both leaders emphasized their shared goals over individual ambitions, stating, “Our differences are small compared to the shared vision we have for our city’s future. We believe that through unity, we can lead this city to greater heights and ensure a better tomorrow for all.”

Each camp has filled its slate from the vice mayor down to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council). Team Uswag, supporting Baronda, includes candidates such as her sister Love Joy Baronda for vice mayor and a mix of former councilors and newcomers for the city council. Meanwhile, Team Gugma, backing Treñas-Chu, features incumbent Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon seeking re-election along with a blend of seasoned and new councilors.

This alliance marks a pivotal shift in Iloilo City’s political landscape, as both teams harness their collective strengths to address the city’s challenges and opport
unities. The united approach has been met with positive responses from the community, as highlighted by Treñas-Chu in her gratitude for the support during the candidacy filing. “This journey is not ours alone – it is a collective effort, and with your help, we are confident that we can continue to uplift and improve the lives of every Ilonggo,” she remarked.
