Batangas Province Mobilizes Support for Typhoon Kristine Victims with Mobile Kitchens and Medical Aid

Batangas city: The provincial government of Batangas has launched an initiative to support evacuees affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine by distributing medical supplies and deploying mobile kitchens. The effort, led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), aims to provide immediate relief to those displaced by the storm.

According to Philippines News Agency, PDRRMO head Amor Banuelos-Calayan stated that the government is working in tandem with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to ensure evacuees receive hot meals and necessary medical assessments. A total of 34 evacuation centers have been set up across various towns and cities, including Calatagan, Alitagtag, Batangas City, and others, accommodating 2,200 families or 5,926 individuals. Additionally, 34 families comprising 108 individuals are staying with relatives outside these centers.

The storm has also left 220 passengers stranded, who are currently
being assisted by Asian Terminal Inc. (ATI). Calayan emphasized that the province’s proactive measures have resulted in no casualties, only minor injuries, which have been addressed.

Several roads in Batangas remain impassable due to the storm, affecting areas such as Nasugbu, Balayan, and others. The provincial government is coordinating with local disaster management offices to provide immediate assistance, particularly in flooded areas and emergency rooms at the provincial hospital in Lemery.

Governor Hermilando Mandanas has been actively involved, personally assessing affected areas and visiting evacuation centers to address the needs of the displaced. He has urged residents to remain cautious as the region continues to experience strong winds and heavy rainfall.
