Batangas Remains on Blue Alert as Evacuations Continue Amid Tropical Storm Kristine

BATANGAS: The province of Batangas maintained its blue alert status on Wednesday, prompting the pre-emptive evacuation of residents due to the approaching Tropical Storm Kristine. The alert, which signals significant rainfall and potential flooding, has led to the continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas and the mobilization of emergency resources.

According to Philippines News Agency, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Amor Banuelos-Calayan reported ongoing surveillance of flood and landslide-prone regions, as well as the status of stranded travelers at local ports. The situation report revealed that 159 passengers remain stranded at the Port of Batangas, while 80 families from the municipalities of Calatagan and Tingloy have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Calayan further stated that food, non-food items, and logistical support are being distributed to those affected, particularly the stranded passengers. Monitoring efforts are focused on 740 barangays acros
s 24 municipalities that may face flooding threats. She also noted that several barangays in Lobo, Taysan, Cuenca, and San Luis are still experiencing power outages.

The PDRRMO is actively coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard, the Provincial Engineering Office, and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office to mitigate the potential impacts of the storm. Acting Governor Mark Leviste has urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as those susceptible to landslides, to remain alert and prepared for adverse weather conditions. Leviste emphasized the importance of vigilance, citing the unpredictable nature of the storm’s tail end, which could bring intense rainfall despite the province not being in the storm’s direct path.
