Bicolano Dancers Triumph at National DanceSport Championships in Cebu City


Cebu City, Philippines—The Magayon DanceSport Team from Legazpi, Albay, showcased their talent by dominating several categories at the Philippine DanceSport Federation, Inc. (PDSFI) 3rd Quarter National Championships, held at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel and Casino’s grand ballroom on Saturday.



According to the Philippines News Agency, the young dancers achieved top honors in the Open Juvenile 1-D1, 1-D2, and 1-B categories within the Latin division. Cyrus Aurelius Riñon led the charge, securing three gold medals across these categories, partnered with Ruth Marclene Maranan in 1-B and Erin Lois Cueto in both Juvenile 1-D1 and 1-D2 events.



Nine-year-old Erin Lois Cueto expressed her joy after winning her first gold medal in only her second national tournament. Cueto, along with her teammates, receives coaching from Jef and Kate Rizo and all are students at Albay Central School in Legazpi City.



Other notable performances included Jake Decena Jr. and Alexandreia Pigar of GenSan DST, who finished second in the Juvenile 1-D2 class and third in the 1-D1 category. Their teammates, Alexander Lakbao and Arshie Wenhon Lastimoso, clinched the second spot in the 1-D1 category. Meanwhile, Dan Jhoren Rafael and Frances Jesse Rae Bolos from Santiago West took home the silver in the Juvenile 1-B category, with John Migzroy Rico and Jenelle Ann Garcia earning the bronze.



The event, continuing through Sunday, features both the national championships and the World DanceSport Federation Cebu Open. It is organized by DanceSport Team Cebu International, Inc., in collaboration with the Philippine DanceSport Federation Inc., the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, and the Cebu City government.
