CCC and German Embassy Highlight Role of Journalists in Climate Change Reporting


MANILA — The Climate Change Commission (CCC) emphasized the vital role of media in shaping the public’s response to climate change during a media training workshop in partnership with the German Embassy and Deutsche Welle Akademie (DW Akademie). The five-day workshop, held in Quezon City, aimed to equip Filipino journalists with the knowledge and tools to report effectively on climate change issues.



According to Philippines News Agency, the media’s role in simplifying complex technical information about climate change is essential in raising awareness and inspiring climate action. He stressed that accurate, science-based reporting grounded in local realities could mobilize public understanding and action on climate issues.



The workshop included training on climate reporting techniques, storytelling strategies, and a detailed discussion on the National Adaptation Plan (NAP). The NAP focuses on eight key sectors vulnerable to climate change, including Agriculture, Fisheries, Water Resources, and Health, among others. The German Embassy also underscored the media’s critical role in addressing climate challenges, particularly in disaster-prone countries like the Philippines.
