Chief of China’s Jiangsu to visit S. Korea this week

SEOUL, The Chinese party chief of the Jiangsu Province will visit South Korea later this week for talks with government and other officials here, Seoul’s foreign ministry said Tuesday.

Xin Changxing, the party secretary of China’s eastern Jiangsu province, will make a two-day trip to Seoul from Wednesday to Thursday, ministry spokesperson Lim Soo-suk said in a press briefing.

While in Seoul, Xin plans to meet with top South Korean government officials and take part in events outside of Seoul organized by provincial governments.

Jiangsu Province has the second-largest economy among the provincial governments in China and has close trade and investment ties with South Korea.

“It is a visit by a top Chinese provincial government official as South Korea and China continue to keep the momentum going for high-level exchanges,” Lim said.

“We expect the visit will serve to enhance the substantive cooperation between South Korea and China,” Lim added.

Xin’s trip comes a day after Seoul and Beijing held a “two pl
us two” diplomatic security dialogue of their senior foreign and defense officials in Seoul.

In April, Hao Peng, China’s communist party secretary of the Liaoning province, held talks with Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul in Seoul on cooperation in the supply chain of raw materials and others.
