ILOILO: Consumers are advised to shop early for flowers with prices expected to be dictated by the demand and choose local as they observe Undas. In a press conference on Wednesday, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique director Mutya Eusores highlighted the impact of consumers’ purchasing power on their ability to search for the best items or goods. Eusores emphasized the importance of spending time canvassing when on a tight budget to potentially secure cheaper options.
According to Philippines News Agency, DTI Aklan director Romel Amihan reported that the prices of flowers vary significantly based on their monitoring records, making it essential for consumers to canvass if they have the time. Flowers in the region are primarily sourced from Dangwa in Manila, with others coming from Baguio and China.
DTI regional director Rachel Nufable encouraged consumers to support locally-produced candles and food. She noted that local products are often cheaper due to lower logistics costs and purchasing the

DTI assured that there is a sufficient supply of candles and bottled water, which are highly sought after during Undas. Lawyer Jazer Mirada, officer-in-charge of the DTI Consumer Protection Division, confirmed that all prices are within the suggested retail price. He provided examples, such as the 350ml of Absolute pure distilled drinking water at PHP12 and Wilkins 330 ml also at PHP12, with some brands priced even lower.
Mirada also detailed the pricing of candles, noting that a pack of 20 Liwanag Esperma No. 3 white candles costs PHP65.78, with some retailers offering them at PHP64.75. Similarly, a pack of five Manila Wax No. 14 white candles is priced at PHP54.10, with some retailers selling them at PHP53.75. He added that local government units are required to activate their loca
l price monitoring council to ensure price stability.
