Criminal Charges Filed Against NBI Agent for Misconduct During Makati Clinic Raid

MAKATI – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has formally filed criminal charges against one of its agents following allegations of improper conduct during a raid on an unlicensed clinic in Makati on September 11.

According to Philippines News Agency, the raid led to the arrest of three individuals, including Vietnamese national Nguyen Thu Ha, known as Mei Naa, along with her Filipino employees Demi Robles and Mary Frinces Dalaguite. Following an investigation by the NBI’s Internal Affairs Division (IAD), NBI Director Jaime Santiago ordered the criminal charges and also mandated the temporary suspension of the Special Task Force (STF), an ad hoc team handling national security cases.

The NBI’s statement detailed that upon confirmation of the agent’s misconduct, Director Santiago personally confronted the individual involved. The agent subsequently resigned, a resignation that Santiago accepted. However, recognizing the gravity of the misconduct, the NBI proceeded to file criminal charges against the former agent at the Office of the City Prosecutor of Makati City. Details regarding the identity of the agent and the specific charges have not been disclosed.

Director Santiago emphasized the NBI’s strict non-tolerance policy towards improper behavior, describing the incident as not only improper but also “illegal, unlawful, unethical, gruesome, grotesque and outrightly unacceptable.”
