DA Lifts Import Ban on Birds, Poultry Products from Michigan.

Manila: The Department of Agriculture (DA) confirmed the lifting of a temporary import ban on birds and poultry products from Michigan, USA. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. approved this decision following the resolution of high pathogenicity avian influenza (AI) cases in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DA stated that the ban’s lifting applies to domestic and wild birds and their products, including poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen. This decision follows a report from US Veterinary Authorities to the World Organization of Animal Health (WOAH), confirming that all AI cases in Michigan had ended with no additional outbreaks since July 12.

The order is effective immediately, with all transactions subject to the DA’s existing import rules and regulations. The temporary ban was initially imposed on June 7 to protect the country’s poultry industry from AI.

As of November 4, the DA noted that only one barangay in San Luis, Pampanga has an active AI case nationwide
