MANILA: The death toll for the combined effects of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) and Super Typhoon Leon (international name Kong-rey) has climbed to 139, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, of the 139 reported deaths, only 14 have been validated so far, with nine in Bicol, two in Central Luzon, two in Cordillera, and one in Northern Mindanao, as per the disaster response body’s latest situation report. The remaining 125 deaths are still undergoing validation, including 72 in Calabarzon, 46 in Bicol Region, five in Central Visayas, and two in Zamboanga Peninsula.
Reports indicate that 21 individuals are still missing, with 15 in Calabarzon, four in Bicol, one in Ilocos, and one in Central Visayas, pending confirmation. Of the 86 reported injured persons, only 10 have been verified at this time, according to the NDRRMC.
The twin cyclones have affected 1,788,630 families, equivalent to 7,033,922
persons residing in 10,948 barangays across 17 regions nationwide. Of these, 86,565 families or 333,951 persons are sheltered in 2,780 evacuation centers, while another 91,307 families or 427,059 individuals are being aided outside these centers.
Additionally, around 111,117 houses were reported damaged across 16 regions, with damages to agriculture and infrastructure estimated at PHP2.83 billion and PHP3.61 billion, respectively.
