DHSUD Initiates National Shelter Month to Strengthen Stakeholder Engagement

MANILA — The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has officially inaugurated National Shelter Month (NSM) 2024, focusing on enhancing collaborations within the housing and real estate sectors through sustained stakeholder interactions.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar emphasized the importance of cooperation between public and private entities to energize the industry. “Under the 4PH Program, we are not merely building houses, we are transforming communities into resilient and sustainable living spaces, and we are improving the way of life of our people,” Acuzar stated. He highlighted the potential for government housing agencies to convert challenges into opportunities by presenting a united front.

The launch involved local government units, private partners, and various attached agencies, including the National Housing Authority, Social Housing Finance Corporation, National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation, Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG Fund), and the Human Settlements Adjudication Commission. These groups commenced their month-long activities with significant events starting Tuesday.

Regional DHSUD offices in Bicol, Davao Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region began NSM 2024 with a motorcade alongside other government agencies and also held ‘Kapihan’, which are town hall meetings designed to facilitate discussions with stakeholders. The schedule for the month includes housing summits with private partners, free seminars for real estate practitioners, and project exhibits featuring private developers.

Additionally, the DHSUD Central Office is set to host a significant program on October 7, aligning with the global celebration of World Habitat Day, further underscoring the department’s commitment to addressing housing needs comprehensively.
