Manila: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced its readiness to extend emergency employment to workers affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, internationally known as Trami.
According to Philippines News Agency, Labor Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez reported that approximately 251,000 workers have been displaced due to the storm’s impact, particularly in the Bicol Region and Calabarzon. The emergency employment initiative will offer 10 days of work with corresponding pay for those affected.
Benavidez also highlighted the availability of livelihood grant assistance aimed at helping displaced workers either form or restore their livelihood opportunities. Individual grants can reach up to PHP50,000, while group or association grants may go up to PHP3 million.
He encouraged affected workers to visit the DOLE’s nearest field office or their local Public Employment Service Offices for assistance.
