Dominican Ace Reyes Tosses Scoreless Gem to Send Lions to Korean Series

SEOUL: Taking the ball six days after winning his first postseason game in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), Samsung Lions ace Denyi Reyes delivered an even better performance Saturday to send his club to the Korean Series for the first time in nine years. Reyes threw seven shutout innings as the Lions eked out a 1-0 win over the LG Twins at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul to win their best-of-five series in four games.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Lions, who entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, will now face the top-seeded Kia Tigers in the Korean Series. The championship series is set to start at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Gwangju, which is located approximately 270 kilometers south of Seoul. Reyes had already made a significant impact earlier in the series, being the winning pitcher in the Lions’ 10-4 victory in Game 1 on Sunday. In that game, he held the Twins to three runs-one earned-over 6 2/3 innings, striking out only one while allowing just four hits.

On Saturday, Reyes continued his impr
essive form, earning his second win of the series by keeping the Twins’ bats in check. By skillfully mixing six different types of pitches, Reyes managed to limit the Twins to just three singles throughout the game. Despite a low strikeout count, fanning only two batters, his ability to control the game was evident. With two victories and an impressive ERA of 0.66, Reyes was voted the series MVP, receiving 42 of 55 votes from the media.
