Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has initiated discussions with the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines to explore expanding flight routes between the two nations as a strategy to enhance trade, tourism, and economic relations. This development signifies a strengthening of ties between the Philippines and Canada, aiming to create more opportunities for both countries.
According to Philippines News Agency, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting the 75-year history of ‘strong and friendly bilateral relations’ between the Philippines and Canada, which began in 1949. Bautista noted that increasing the number of flights would bolster the Philippines’ economic resilience and contribute to the economic growth of both nations.
Bautista mentioned that Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines David Hartman expressed confidence that the expansion of flights to and from North America would be successful due to rising demand. This sentiment was echoed during
the recent Aviation Summit 2024, where Bautista announced plans for new routes to other countries, which are expected to provide travelers with more options and attract foreign tourists.
In line with this expansion strategy, direct flights between the Philippines and France are set to commence on December 8, as part of the Asia-Pacific route expansion, demonstrating a broader effort to connect the Philippines with key international destinations.
