DSWD Delivers Food Aid to Northern Samar Families Affected by Tropical Storm Enteng


NORTHERN SAMAR—The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed 6,482 family food packs (FFPs) to aid families in Northern Samar who have been displaced by extensive flooding caused by Tropical Storm Enteng.



According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD Eastern Visayas regional information officer, the department is expediting the delivery of food packs to the local government units most severely impacted by the flooding. “The distribution is the role of local government units already. For releases from DSWD to local governments, it’s a concerted effort of the whole government approach,” Chua explained during a phone interview on Tuesday.



The FFPs, each costing PHP500, include six kilograms of rice, four cans of corned beef, two cans of tuna flakes, two cans of sardines, five sachets of coffee, and five sachets of energy drink. These packs have been distributed to affected families in the towns of Allen, Victoria, and Lavezares in Northern Samar province. The department has allocated approximately PHP4.67 million for food packs and non-food items to support the relief efforts.



As of September 3, the DSWD has prepared relief items valued at PHP131.20 million to assist storm victims across Eastern Visayas. Chua further stated, “There is an ongoing coordination and monitoring by the quick response team of the DSWD to ensure that all affected families receive the necessary assistance.”



The devastating effects of Tropical Storm Enteng have displaced 27,137 families residing in 200 villages across Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran provinces.
