DSWD Deploys Mobile Command Center to Aid Storm Victims in Naga City

Naga city: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 5 has deployed a mobile command center equipped with advanced information and communications technology to streamline data collection and support families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine in Naga City and nearby areas in Camarines Sur. The initiative aims to enhance disaster response operations by providing reliable emergency telecommunications support.

According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-5 disaster response management division information officer Carl James Cabarles highlighted the importance of effective data gathering in facilitating humanitarian response efforts in the region. The mobile command center offers internet connectivity and power supply, enabling residents to communicate with family members during the crisis.

The deployment team comprises skilled professionals in ICT management, networking, and data handling, ensuring seamless integration of services. Apart from technological support, DSWD plans to conduct ps
ychosocial first aid sessions in evacuation centers to help storm victims cope with trauma, especially children. Recreational and educational activities, such as movie marathons, are also part of the initiative.

Cabarles noted that DSWD has prepositioned 101,801 food packs valued at PHP71 million and 78,641 non-food items worth PHP129 million in regional warehouses and local government unit sites. A standby fund of PHP3 million is available for additional supplies if necessary. Each family food pack contains essential items to sustain a family of five for two days.

Simultaneously, the provincial government of Albay is addressing the needs of affected families. Dante Baclao, acting chief of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, affirmed ongoing relief efforts in evacuation centers. Acting Governor Baby Glenda Ong Bongao announced the continuation of the suspension of government work and classes as the province navigates the aftermath of the storm.
