Fire at USFK Warehouse in Busan Under Control, No Casualties Reported

BUSAN: A fire at a U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) warehouse in the southeastern port city of Busan has been successfully contained, with no casualties reported, officials stated on Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Busan Metropolitan City Fire Disaster Headquarters announced that the fire was nearly under control by 7:24 a.m., leading to the lifting of the fire response system at 7:34 a.m. The fire broke out at 6:31 p.m. Thursday at the USFK’s facility in Busan, located 320 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Authorities dispatched over 160 personnel and 51 pieces of fire equipment to tackle the blaze.

The fire reportedly originated in a cold storage facility inside the warehouse, which was under construction. Officials confirmed that all workers had vacated the premises after finishing construction work, ensuring no casualties. The fire did not spread to nearby buildings.

Firefighters faced challenges in extinguishing the blaze due to the warehouse’s sandwich panel structures and the presence of construct
ion and combustible materials. Efforts are ongoing to extinguish the remaining flames.

The warehouse’s role involved distributing USFK equipment received through the Busan port to units across the nation. An independent investigation by the USFK is planned once the fire is fully extinguished.
