Fire Extinguished at USFK Warehouse in Busan; No Injuries Reported


BUSAN: A fire at a United States Forces Korea (USFK) warehouse in Busan was successfully extinguished with no injuries reported, officials confirmed. The blaze, which began at a cold storage facility within the warehouse, was put out by firefighters after nearly 19 hours of effort.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Busan Metropolitan City Fire Disaster Headquarters announced that the fire was completely extinguished by 1:34 p.m. on Friday. The fire had erupted around 6:31 p.m. on Thursday in the southeastern port city of Busan, located 320 kilometers from Seoul. The major flames were brought under control by early Friday morning, leading to the lifting of the fire response system at 7:34 a.m.

Firefighting teams mobilized more than 160 personnel and deployed 51 pieces of equipment to tackle the extensive blaze. The fire originated in a section of the warehouse that was under construction, but fortunately, all workers had vacated the premises after completing their work, preventing any casualties. Addition
ally, the fire did not extend to nearby buildings.

The warehouse, designed with sandwich panel structures and filled with construction and combustible materials, posed significant challenges to firefighters. It serves as a hub for distributing USFK equipment arriving through Busan port to units across South Korea.

The USFK, in collaboration with local firefighting authorities, intends to investigate the cause of the fire. However, the results of this investigation will remain confidential under an existing treaty.
