Golden Tigresses and Lady Tams Secure Wins in V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge


MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In a thrilling showdown at the Paco Arena, the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses claimed victory over the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers in a five-set match, 25-16, 19-25, 14-25, 25-22, 15-12, during Sunday’s V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge.



According to Philippines News Agency, the team’s resilience was key to their comeback in the final sets. Angeline Poyos led the Golden Tigresses with a remarkable performance, scoring 22 points from 18 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, along with 10 excellent digs and six receptions. Teammates Jonna Chris Perdido and Regine Grace Jurado contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively, securing the team’s fourth win. Meanwhile, Wielyn Estoque stood out for the Lady Blazers with 31 points, despite the team’s third loss in the tournament.



In another match, Far Eastern University Lady Tams defeated Colegio de San Juan de Letran with straight sets, 25-16, 25-22, 25-15, to tie with the University of the Philippines for the second place in the standings. Faida Bakanke spearheaded the Lady Tams with 18 points, supported by Chenie Tagaod and Jean Asis, who each added six points.



The day also featured men’s division action where FEU Tamaraws ended De La Salle University Green Archers’ winning streak with a score of 25-21, 25-18, 25-18. FEU’s Lirick John Mendoza and Dryx Saavedra contributed significantly with 11 and 10 points, respectively. FEU head coach Ed Orcullo praised the team’s preparation and determination in securing the win.
