Government Mobilizes Resources in Response to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine

Manila: The Philippine government is actively managing the response to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, known internationally as Trami, with a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies. According to Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has instructed relevant government bodies to provide swift and comprehensive assistance to the areas affected by the storm.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Remulla emphasized that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have already allocated their resources to support those impacted by the storm. Remulla assured the public that the government is fully engaged in relief efforts.

Search and rescue operations have been initiated in Naga City, Camarines Sur, one of the regions severely impacted by the storm. Remulla noted that logistical challenges delayed the arrival of aid teams due to road conditions, but they have
since arrived in the area. He highlighted that government resources are available to local government units as needed.

The Department of Health is set to deploy field emergency hospitals in Naga City to address the medical needs of storm victims. Concurrently, the DPWH is conducting continuous clearing operations to ensure that roads remain accessible for relief distribution.

Efforts to restore power are underway, with the Department of Energy working alongside affected electric cooperatives. Remulla expressed optimism that power would be restored in Naga shortly.

In addition to Camarines Sur, the storm’s impact is now being felt in Metro Manila and the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, and Laguna. Remulla is currently awaiting further reports from other provinces to assess the storm’s full effects.
