Greenfield Interchange in Calamba Set to Alleviate SLEX Traffic Congestion

CALAMBA CITY: A new interchange in Calamba City, Laguna is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve access to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The Ayala Greenfield Interchange, once completed, aims to provide a more efficient route for motorists traveling through the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ayala Greenfield Interchange was held recently, with key government and private sector leaders in attendance. DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport, Jesus Ortega, emphasized the interchange’s role in easing traffic flow and fostering economic opportunities. “It will help ease traffic congestion in the area, pave the way for more opportunities, and enhance the life of every resident not just in Calamba but also in the Calabarzon area,” Ortega stated.

Calamba City Mayor Roseller Rizal referred to the project as a “beacon of progress and opportunity,” highlighting its potential to accommo
date the increasing number of vehicles and visitors to Calamba, known as the resort capital of the Philippines and a vital growth corridor in the Calabarzon region.

The project has garnered support from major corporations such as Ayala Corp. and San Miguel Corp. Jaime Zobel de Ayala, chair of Ayala Corp. and Ayala Land Inc., along with Ramon Ang, president and chief executive officer of San Miguel Corp., expressed gratitude towards the DOTr for their support. They praised the partnership’s role in enhancing the quality of life for Filipinos through infrastructure development.

Upon completion, the Ayala Greenfield Interchange will connect SLEX Toll Road 3 to local roads, facilitating smoother travel between SLEX and the STAR Tollway for motorists originating from Calamba.
