High-Profile Guests Attend Private Wedding of SK Group Chairman’s Daughter

SEOUL: Top South Korean business leaders, including Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong, attended the private wedding of SK Chairman Chey Tae-won’s daughter, Chey Min-jung, to Kevin Hwang, a Chinese American serving in the U.S. Marine Corps., at the Grand Walkerhill Hotel in eastern Seoul on Sunday. The event marked the first public appearance of Chey Tae-won with his estranged wife, Roh Soh-yeong, since their high-profile divorce proceedings began.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the wedding attracted significant attention not only due to the presence of key business figures but also because of the ongoing legal battle between Chey Tae-won and Roh Soh-yeong. An appeals court recently ruled that Chey should pay 1.38 trillion won (US$1.02 billion) in property division and a solatium of 2 billion won to Roh, with the case now pending a Supreme Court decision. Despite their legal disputes, the couple was seen sitting together during the ceremony, having arrived separately.

Chey Min-jung, known for her unexpected mi
litary career beginning as a naval officer candidate in 2014 and later a lieutenant serving on a naval destroyer, has recently left her position at SK hynix Inc. to start a healthcare startup. The groom, Kevin Hwang, shares a military background, which is said to have played a significant role in their relationship.

The event was attended by prominent figures such as LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan, and HD Hyundai Vice Chairman Chung Kisun. Notably, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Euisun Chung was reported unable to attend due to prior commitments.

The wedding was held privately, with strict access limited to around 500 guests who had received invitations in advance, reflecting the family’s desire for discretion amidst ongoing public and legal scrutiny.
