Hyundai and Kia Electric Vehicles Score Top Marks in Global Safety Tests

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp.’s electric vehicles have achieved top ratings in several prominent global crash safety tests, bolstering the South Korean automakers’ reputations for building safe electric vehicles (EVs).

According to Yonhap News Agency, five EV models built on Hyundai Motor Group’s exclusive E-GMP platform garnered the maximum five-star ratings in the European New Car Assessment Programme. These models include Genesis GV60, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, along with Kia’s EV6 and EV9. These same models have also excelled in the United States, where they received high ratings in tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Specifically, the Genesis GV60, Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and EV6 were awarded the Top Safety Pick (TSP) Plus designation, the highest safety honor from IIHS, while the EV9 received the Top Safety Pick rating. This recognition reflects the vehicles’ robust safety features and performance in crash evaluations. Last year, Hyundai Motor Group led global automotive groups with 20 of its vehicles achieving TSP or higher ratings in IIHS assessments.

A Hyundai Motor Group official stated, “Hyundai Motor Group will continue to invest significant efforts in research and development to ensure the highest level of safety for passengers in all aspects,” emphasizing the group’s commitment to safety innovation and leadership in the EV sector.
