SEOUL: Hyundai Motor Group announced the development of the world’s first automated system for designing vehicle press molds, a breakthrough that promises significant reductions in design time and enhancements in production quality.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the innovative system allows for the standardization of technical documents and design conditions. By integrating previously dispersed design processes into a cohesive system, Hyundai Motor Group has streamlined the mold design workflow. Designers can now enter required values step-by-step, after which the system automatically generates the optimal design blueprint for the press mold.
Press molds, critical in shaping exterior vehicle parts like trunks and hoods, typically require multiple press operations, with different molds needed for each step. The new system not only simplifies the creation of these molds but also significantly cuts down the design time by over 75 percent. Moreover, it effectively eliminates design errors, thereby enhancing
the overall quality of the production process.
Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia have been implementing this system in phases since 2020. The recent completion of its development means it is now fully operational for all press operations across Hyundai’s and Kia’s production lines.
