Jerrold Mangliwan Places Eighth in Paralympic Men’s 400m T52 Race at Stade de France

PARIS — Filipino wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan finished eighth in the Paralympic Games men’s 400-meter T52 event on Friday at Stade de France. Recording a time of one minute and 4.55 seconds, Mangliwan completed the race last in the finals after qualifying seventh.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mangliwan struggled in the initial 150 meters of the race but improved in the latter half. Despite his efforts to close the gap, he was unable to advance beyond the eighth position. Deriada highlighted that while Mangliwan had shown better times in practice, the racer acknowledged the challenges of the event and admitted there was more he could have done.

The event was won by Belgium’s Maxime Carabine, the reigning world champion, who clocked 55.10 seconds. Silver and bronze went to Japanese racers Sato Tomoki and Ito Tomoya, respectively. Meanwhile, at the Les Invalides shooting range, fellow Filipino para athlete Agustina Bantiloc was eliminated in the opening round of the women’s individual compound archery.

Mangliwan, who had a disqualification in the previous Tokyo 2021 games, still has a chance to compete in the upcoming 100-meter T52 race, with heats scheduled for September 5 and the finals the following day.
