KBO Postseason Game Postponed Due to Weather Conditions in Daegu

DAEGU: The second game of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason series between the LG Twins and the Samsung Lions was postponed due to rain in Daegu on Monday, with the match rescheduled for Tuesday evening at the same venue.

According to Yonhap News Agency, heavy rain began around 2:30 p.m. at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, leading to the decision by the KBO to call off the game just before 5 p.m. The game has been rescheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the same location. The Lions currently lead the best-of-five series 1-0 following their 10-4 victory over the Twins on Sunday. The series winner will face the top-seeded Kia Tigers in the Korean Series, which is set to start next Monday in Gwangju.

Despite the delay, the KBO confirmed that the schedule for the Korean Series would remain unaffected if the current series concludes in four games. However, a full five-game series would necessitate pushing the start of the Korean Series to October 22.

The Lions have announced that Won Tae-in will r
emain their starting pitcher for Tuesday’s rescheduled game. The Twins, after the forced postponement, have opted to start Son Ju-young instead of Dietrich Enns, who was initially slated for Monday. Enns’ appearance will now be moved to a later game in the series.

During a press conference just before the game was postponed, Lions’ manager Park Jin-man expressed concern about the potential impact of starting the game and then having it called off, which could lead to wasted pitching efforts. On the other hand, Twins’ manager Youm Kyoung-youb, speaking after the postponement was announced, saw the rainout as beneficial, giving his pitchers, including Enns and reliever Elieser Hernandez, additional rest. Hernandez, a key player in the bullpen, did not pitch in Sunday’s loss but had appeared in all five games of the Twins’ previous series against the KT Wiz.
