La Union Provides Relief to 1,398 Evacuees Affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine

La union: The provincial government of La Union has distributed PHP210,000 worth of essential food and non-food items to 1,398 evacuees impacted by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, known internationally as Trami. The aid reached 467 families across several towns and cities, including Luna, Bangar, Balaoan, Rosario, Burgos, Aringay, Caba, and San Fernando City, who have sought refuge in 29 evacuation centers.

According to Philippines News Agency, the distributed food packs contained six kilos of rice, eight canned goods, and six pieces of instant coffee. Non-food items provided to evacuees included toothbrushes, soap, laundry powder, shampoo, and towels. The storm has also led to infrastructure damage, with 11 houses reported damaged across the province. In Luna, one house was partially damaged; in Balaoan, eight houses suffered partial damage; and in Rosario, two houses were totally destroyed due to strong winds and fallen trees.

Further challenges persist as several villages in Santo Tomas remain flooded, w
ith water levels ranging from ankle to below knee height, exacerbated by high tide and storm surges. Additionally, 38 villages in the City of San Fernando and the municipalities of Bacnotan, Bangar, Agoo, and Aringay experienced power interruptions.

In response to the adverse weather conditions, Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David has ordered the suspension of classes in all levels across both public and private schools on Friday.
