Lady Bulldogs Secure Eighth Straight Win, Tigresses Close Behind in UAAP Season 87


QUEZON CITY: The National University Lady Bulldogs continued their winning streak with a commanding 82-62 victory over Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday. The win marks their eighth in a row, maintaining their unbeaten record this season.

According to Philippines News Agency, rookie Cielo Pagdulagan led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points, complemented by seven assists, six rebounds, and five steals. The performance was highlighted by NU coach Aris Dimaunahan, who praised Pagdulagan’s growth and consistency. Teammates Aloha Betanio and Gypsey May Canuto each added 11 points, contributing to the team’s solid performance against Ateneo, whom they have now defeated 20 times consecutively since Season 75 in 2012.

On the opposing side, Kacey Dela Rosa stood out for the Blue Eagles with 22 points and 17 rebounds, but it was not enough to overcome the strong NU squad. The Blue Eagles now hold a record of 4-4.

In another match, the Unive
rsity of Santo Tomas Tigresses defeated the University of the Philippines 84-57, securing their seventh win against one loss. The defending champions were led by Ana Mae Tacatac and Karylle Sierba, who together knocked down five three-pointers. Tacatac scored 23 points, and Sierba added 15, helping the Tigresses to extend their win streak to four games.

UST coach Haydee Ong emphasized the desire for consistency and strength as the season progresses, noting improvements in the team’s performance, particularly in the second half of the game.

The current standings see the Tigresses trailing just behind the undefeated Lady Bulldogs, setting the stage for a competitive continuation of the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament.
