Landslides in Northern Samar Claim Two Lives, Injure Four Amid Tropical Storm


BIRI, NORTHERN SAMAR — Two individuals have died, and four others were injured following landslides in the island town of Biri, Northern Samar, which were triggered by Tropical Storm Enteng.



According to Philippines News Agency, spokesperson for the PNP Region 8 (Eastern Samar), the landslides occurred on Sunday afternoon in Sto. Niño village. The bodies of two missing persons were recovered the following morning and identified by their relatives. “The two alleged missing persons were recovered and positively identified by their immediate relatives covered by mud from the landslide and were immediately brought to Biri District Hospital for postmortem examination,” Armeza communicated to the press. The local government’s official Facebook page identified the victims as Federico Galvan Sabangan Sr., 76, and Federico Acuña Sabangan Jr., 39.



The same landslide incident resulted in injuries to four other residents of Sto. Niño village. The local authorities are currently monitoring the situation and coordinating further emergency response efforts.
