Largest Chicken-Shaped Building Becomes New Tourist Attraction in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY: The “Manok ni Cano Gwapo,” recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest building in the shape of a chicken, has emerged as the latest tourism draw in Negros Occidental. Situated within the Campuestohan Highland Resort in Barangay Cabatangan, Talisay City, this 115-foot structure pays homage to the province’s booming game fowl industry, which has become a significant economic driver alongside sugar production.

According to Philippines News Agency, the building, designed to resemble a rooster, underscores Negros Occidental’s vibrant fighting cock industry. Owner Ricardo Tan, a former Bacolod City councilor, explained the inspiration behind the design during the structure’s blessing and inauguration. Tan highlighted the industry’s resilience, noting its rise during challenging times for the sugar sector. The Department of Tourism (DOT) has positioned “Manok ni Cano Gwapo” as a landmark destination in the province.

The Guinness World Records documented the building’s dimensions as 34.931 me
ters in height, 12.127 meters in width, and 28.172 meters in length, verified on September 8. The structure’s measurement was independently witnessed by Paolo Segubre, president of Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines-Western Visayas, and Jessica Puey, president of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers-Negros Occidental. The construction of the six-story building, featuring 115 steps and 15 hotel rooms, spanned 456 days, commencing on June 10, 2023.

Ricardo Tan expressed readiness to welcome guests to the unique hotel, emphasizing its architectural significance. Jennylind Cordero, Chief Operations Officer of DOT-Western Visayas, noted that Campuestohan Highland Resort is among the few accredited resorts in Negros Occidental, meeting the stringent standards set by the tourism department.
