LG Twins Edge Out Samsung Lions 1-0 to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Seoul: The LG Twins narrowly defeated the Samsung Lions on Thursday with a 1-0 victory, keeping their Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason aspirations alive by avoiding elimination.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the crucial win at Jamsil Baseball Stadium saw Twins pitcher Im Chan-kyu deliver a stellar performance, throwing 5 1/3 shutout innings. He was effectively relieved by Elieser Hernandez who added 3 2/3 scoreless frames, securing the team’s victory in front of a packed house of 23,750 spectators. The game’s only run came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Hong Chang-ki hit a sacrifice fly, bringing a teammate home.

The Samsung Lions, who still lead the best-of-five series 2-1, will have another opportunity to clinch the series against the Twins in Game 4, set to take place again at Jamsil Stadium. The winner of this matchup will advance to face the top-seeded Kia Tigers in the Korean Series.

This series is pivotal for the Twins as they aim to repeat their success from the previous seas
on and become the first team since the 2015-16 Doosan Bears to win back-to-back Korean Series titles. Historically, overcoming a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-five second round is rare, with only three teams achieving this feat, the latest being the KT Wiz who came back to defeat the NC Dinos last year.
