Low-Pressure Area and Southwest Monsoon to Affect Weather Across the Philippines

MANILA — The Philippines is bracing for scattered rains and potential thunderstorms due to a combination of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, known locally as ‘habagat,’ affecting parts of Southern Luzon and the Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the LPA, located approximately 695 kilometers east of Butuan City, is expected to cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over regions including Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Central Visayas, and parts of Eastern Visayas such as Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar. Additionally, the southwest monsoon will enhance cloudy conditions and rain across Palawan and the remainder of Mindanao.

PAGASA has issued warnings for possible flash floods or landslides in these areas due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains. Meanwhile, the ‘habagat’ will also bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Occidental Mindoro.

Metro Manila and other parts of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Weather conditions across the archipelago will include light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.

Temperature forecasts for key cities include Metro Manila ranging from 26°C to 32°C, Baguio City from 18°C to 23°C, and Tuguegarao City from 25°C to 35°C, among others. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed on weather updates and take necessary precautions against potential weather-related disruptions.
