LTFRB Issues Special Permits to 753 Buses for Undas Holiday Travel

Manila: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has granted special permits to 753 buses in preparation for the surge of passengers expected to travel during the Undas holiday period. The move aims to ensure safe and efficient travel as Filipinos journey to their home provinces to commemorate All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III announced that the board has issued 272 special permits, covering 753 buses, with the possibility of more permits being granted as operators continue to apply. The special permits are valid from October 25 to November 10, and additional permits may be issued if the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) identifies a need for more buses.

Guadiz stated that the board had already approved special permits for up to 1,200 buses, including utility vehicles, enabling them to operate on longer routes such as Bicol, Cagayan, and Laoag. The initiative is intended to provide safety, comfort,
and convenience for travelers during the Undas season.

To manage the expected increase in passenger volume, the LTFRB has intensified inspections at bus terminals nationwide. Guadiz assured the public that the agency is well-prepared and is working closely with bus operators to ensure that all units are roadworthy and adhere to safety protocols.

Personnel have been deployed to monitor fare regulations and assist passengers at terminals, ensuring that there are enough buses to accommodate the anticipated rise in commuters. Inspections will also include checks on vehicle roadworthiness and driver sobriety, with on-the-spot alcoholic sobriety tests conducted to maintain safety standards.

Guadiz advised passengers to plan their trips early for a more comfortable travel experience and encouraged vigilance in reporting any irregularities. “Our team will be on the ground throughout the holiday period to ensure smooth and efficient transportation services,” he said, emphasizing the LTFRB’s commitment to safeguardi
ng the rights and safety of every passenger.
