Marcos Announces Special Non-Working Days for Local Celebrations Across the Philippines

MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced a series of proclamations establishing special non-working days in five Philippine localities during October to honor significant local anniversaries and cultural festivals. These proclamations are designed to allow residents to participate fully in the celebrations of their respective communities’ histories and traditions.

According to Philippines News Agency, Proclamation No. 693 designates Friday, October 4, as a special non-working day in Infanta, Pangasinan, in commemoration of its 148th founding anniversary. This proclamation is part of a broader initiative by President Marcos to recognize and celebrate local heritage across the nation.

Following this, Proclamation No. 694 sets Tuesday, October 16, as a special non-working day in Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur, for its 67th founding anniversary. Additionally, Proclamation No. 695 declares Thursday, October 25, a special non-working day in Negros Oriental for the annual Buglasan Festival, a vibrant celebration of the province’s rich culture and history.

The series of holidays continues with Proclamation No. 696, which marks Friday, October 26, as a special non-working day in Angeles City, Pampanga. This day is set aside for the Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan Festival, which celebrates the city’s recovery from the devastating effects of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in June 1991.

Lastly, Proclamation No. 697 declares Monday, October 28, as a special non-working day in Dingle, Iloilo. This day allows the community to engage in the commemoration of the Cry of Lincud, marking the first declaration of revolution against Spanish rule in the province and across the island of Panay.

These proclamations were officially signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and reflect the government’s commitment to fostering community spirit and national pride through the acknowledgment of local historical events and cultural festivities.
