Manila: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged greater collaboration between the public and private sectors in Southeast Asia to strengthen the region’s digital economy. Speaking during the ASEAN leaders’ meeting with representatives of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) on Wednesday, Marcos emphasized the critical role the private sector plays in tackling challenges related to the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the expertise and resources of the private sector will be essential in advancing digital commerce and industry across the region. He highlighted the importance of mobilizing investments in areas like cybersecurity, digital connectivity, and technological infrastructure, which are key to the success of the digital economy.

Marcos also expressed support for the ASEAN-BAC’s request for the involvement of relevant government agencies in the formation of the National Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Network Team.
