Marina Tushova Wins Third PVL Player of the Week After Historic 50-Point Game


SAN JUAN, PHILIPPINES – Capital1’s powerhouse import Marina Tushova has clinched her third Player of the Week award in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) following a record-breaking performance that saw her score an unprecedented 50 points in a single match.



According to Philippines News Agency, Tushova’s remarkable achievement came during a game on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, where she executed 47 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace, complemented by 16 excellent receptions and 12 digs. This performance set a new all-time high in PVL scoring, surpassing her own previous records, and earning her the honor for the week of August 20 to 24. Her efforts were prominently featured in both print and online sports coverage and could be witnessed live through the Pilipinas Live app and the PVL’s official website.



Despite Tushova’s stellar play, the Solar Spikers were eliminated from the Reinforced Conference after a tight knockout quarterfinal match against the Cignal HD Spikers, ending with scores of 19-25, 34-36, 25-16, 25-22, 12-15. Reflecting on the loss, Tushova, aged 25, expressed a poignant takeaway from the experience, emphasizing the value of learning from defeats.



Tushova previously broke the league’s scoring record earlier in the season with 45 points against Choco Mucho on August 3, which beat the two-year record held by Prisilla Rivera. She then scored 49 points against Nxled the following week. For this week’s award, Tushova outperformed several top contenders including Akari’s Oly Okaro, Creamline’s Erica Staunton, PLDT’s Lena Samoilenko, Petro Gazz’s Wilma Salas, and Cignal’s duo Gel Cayuna and Riri Meneses.
