NFA, PNOC Sign Partnership for Green, Sustainable Energy Use

Manila: The National Food Authority (NFA) has entered into a partnership with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) to promote the use of green and sustainable energy. The agreement, signed on Thursday, focuses on installing solar panels in NFA facilities, starting with a 100-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar photovoltaic system at its headquarters in Quezon City.

According to Philippines News Agency, the solar power installation will help reduce energy costs by up to 10 percent compared to current utility prices. In addition to cost savings, the initiative is expected to lower the agency’s carbon emissions, contributing to environmental protection efforts in the face of climate change. Lacson emphasized that NFA will incur no expenses for the project, as PNOC is making the full investment.

PNOC is currently in the bidding process for the procurement of the 100-kW solar power system, which is expected to be operational by the end of this year. The agreement also includes plans for the installation of 5 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity at other NFA sites, with Oriental and Occidental Mindoro prioritized for the expansion.

The NFA manages 45 office branches and 288 warehouses nationwide, with plans to extend sustainable energy solutions across its operations.
