North Korea Constructs Unidentified Structures on Disconnected Inter-Korean Road

Seoul: North Korea is reportedly constructing unidentified structures on an eastern inter-Korean road that it previously demolished, amid escalating tensions over its border activities. The development follows the destruction of parts of the eastern Donghae Line and the western Gyeongui Line, which occurred last week.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s border surveillance detected North Korea leveling the ground on the two severed roads and recently installing these new structures on the Donghae Line. These constructions are suspected to potentially serve as frameworks for concrete border barriers. However, there have been no indications yet of similar activities on the Gyeongui road.

The recent explosions, which obliterated inter-Korean land routes, represent the dismantling of once-symbolic pathways of reconciliation and cooperation between the two Koreas. This action follows North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s declaration late last year that the Koreas are “two hostile states,” dismissing any p
rospects for reconciliation and unification with South Korea.
