North Korea Preparing Explosions on Roads to South Korea, Military Sources Say

SEOUL: North Korea appears to be preparing to carry out explosions at roads connected to South Korea as early as Monday, According to Yonhap News Agency, the South’s military. This development follows a recent announcement from Pyongyang declaring intentions to sever all roads and railways linking the two Koreas.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a statement from the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the North Korean military has been observed installing covers along the roads, which are believed to be preparations for the planned explosions. These activities have been detected along the Gyeongui and Donghae lines, critical transport routes that have historically symbolized inter-Korean cooperation. The JCS spokesperson, Col. Lee Sung-jun, emphasized during a regular briefing that the explosions could potentially occur as early as today and might be accompanied by other provocative actions such as launching space projectiles.

The announcement from the JCS comes shortly after heightened tensions between the two Ko
reas, with recent aggressive actions including the sending of trash-filled balloons into South Korea by the North. These developments have prompted South Korea’s military to enhance its surveillance and readiness, ensuring safety measures for troops and civilians in the region.

In related news, North Korea has escalated its military preparedness by ordering artillery units along the border to be fully ready to open fire and reinforcing anti-air observation posts in Pyongyang. This military mobilization is in response to alleged unmanned drone incursions from the South, which Pyongyang has reported occurring multiple times this month.

The situation continues to develop as both nations remain on high alert, with the South Korean military maintaining full readiness against potential provocations. The JCS has strongly warned North Korea against further hostile actions, emphasizing the severe consequences of any aggressive military engagement.
