NPA Rebel Surrenders Arms and Ammunition in Camarines Sur


Camarines Sur — A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) has surrendered to the authorities in Camarines Sur, marking a significant development in regional security efforts, as reported by the Police Regional Office-Bicol (PRO5) on Sunday.



According to Philippines News Agency, the rebel, known only as “Miguel,” aged 38, was a regular member of Squad 1, PLTN1, Kilusang Larangan Guerilla 1, Sub-Regional Committee 2. His surrender occurred on Saturday, with the formal announcement made the following day by PRO5 spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib. Miguel handed over a range of military equipment including an M16 Bushmaster rifle with defaced markings, two steel magazines for the M16, 20 rounds of live 5.56mm ammunition, and one improvised explosive device constructed from a polyvinyl chloride pipe.



Miguel is now undergoing debriefing and profiling procedures under the supervision of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Camarines Sur Provincial Police Office. Lt. Col. Calubaquib highlighted the ongoing collaboration between PRO5, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other agencies to enhance peace and security measures across the Bicol region. She emphasized that these initiatives are integral to the national campaign aimed at eradicating insurgency and promoting sustainable development, aligning with the government’s broader goals for a secure and peaceful nation.
